Empowering Communities Through Digital Inclusion

Join us in our mission to become changemakers and liberators within our communities.

We are
Digital Liberations

Digital Liberations LLC is a budding collective ownership cooperative that works to narrow the digital divide in Washington DC as well as other predominantly Black and Brown communities throughout the United States.

Originally, a program under Serve Your City/Ward 6 Mutual Aid, the Digital Liberations program was initially formed in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide Black and Brown students with digital devices, internet access, and the digital literacy they needed to be successful during remote learning.

Digital Liberations LLC operates within a mutual-aid & Black solidarity framework, and as such empowers members within our own community with the skills, support, and resources necessary for them to be changemakers and liberators.

We believe in solving the Digital Divide ourselves as a community.

Digital Liberations LLC also provided 50 people an introductory coding class and Microsoft Office Suite, and hosted tech training with three cohorts of returning citizens & violence interrupters through our partnership with DC Peace Academy & a cohort of formerly unhoused neighbors through our partnership with the People for Fairness Coalition

We partnered with the National Housing Trust (NHT) to develop their digital-device loaner program and have continued to partner with them to assist their residents and community with various digital/tech initiatives. In Spring 2022, we partnered with Comcast to launch an ACP Outreach Pilot Program to train returning citizens and unhoused residents to be Digital Navigators so that they can learn new skills, earn money, spread awareness, and help community members access the ACP Program through the federal government.

Most recently, in partnership with ONE DC, we have outfitted the Black Workers and Wellness Center, a space for Black Entrepreneurs to learn, create, and collaborate, with a fully equipped technical classroom to carry out Digital Liberations LLC programs including our soon-to-be launching Workforce Development Initiative.

Finally, while the majority of our work is outside of government systems, as we recognize the role that government systems have played in creating the digital device, we have engaged with and led advocacy efforts to bring attention to the issues of the Digital Divide. As such we are members of the Tech Together Initiative through the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer and the DC Digital Equity Coalition organized by Byte Back
